Having worked as a packer at Amazon I can say that this is highly unlikely. When a item is received in the pack station we scan each item, and the computer tells us what box to use (and it will not allow you to use any different size) so, having packed belts before, I have never seen it recommend a box that big for a small item, and you as a packer can not override the computer (a manager can).

It's been in the news lately that they just incinerate the goods they don't sell, they will charge like £17 to return goods to sellers that are stored in their warehouse, or charge 30pence or something to burn them. They're burning things like LCD TVs. Fucking joke
